Sierra Del Oso

The Moreno family from Yebas, northern Spain, produced Aguardiente de Orujo from their home for many years before the Spanish government regulated the production. Aguardiente de Orujo is a pomace brandy made from the solid remains left after pressing of the grape. Ángel Moreno created Orujo de Potes S.L., DBA Sierra del Oso in 1986 in response to the regulation. He bought two copper stills and commenced distilling grapes using artisanal methods. Sierra del Oso became known in the region for its quality and long-established family recipes. In 1995, Ángel moved his distillery to Ojedo, northern Spain and acquired eight more copper stills to meet the demands of his customers. He procured vineyards in the Liébana region in year 2007 and bought twenty additional copper stills as the company continued to grow. Sierra del Oso’s attention to detail in the harvesting of the grapes, respect for Mother Earth, and artisanal methods are signature fundamentals to producing an award winning orujo. Ángel won the Golden Still Award in years 1993, 2000, 2002 and 2007. In addition to crafting Aguardiente de Orujo, Ángel produces Crema de Orujo, Crema de España and Brandy Gran Reserva.
